All India Discoms Association (AIDA) collaborates with ISGF on Smart Grid Technologies, bringing together key experts to discuss the evolution and future of Power Distribution. Over more than 50 representatives of Discoms joined the meeting of AIDA Committee on Smart Grid Technologies on 15th July 2025 and deliberated the way forward. Shri Anand Singh, GM, ISGF, delivered an insightful presentation on the advancement of Smart Grid Technologies, focusing on the large-scale rollout of Smart Meters, the need for enhanced distribution automation, and the integration of renewable energy. He also highlighted national initiatives such as RDSS and SMOC that are accelerating the smart grid ecosystem in India. Mr. Vinoo S. Warrier presented the benefits of digital transformation in Substations, emphasizing the transition from analogue systems to Ethernet-enabled digital devices. He introduced the concept of virtualized IEDs, which enhance interoperability, reduce costs, and streamline integration marking a significant step towards future ready digital substations.
Shri Alok Kumar, Director General, AIDA, concluded the session by underscoring the need for smartness benchmarking, internal capacity development within DISCOMs, effective use of smart metering data, and strategic capacity building among senior leadership to ensure successful Smart Grid implementation.
