The All India Discoms Association (AIDA) was formally launched as a not-for-profit society by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Power, Government of India Shri Manohar Lal during India Smart Utility Week (ISUW) 2024 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
Officially registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 bearing registration number S/ND/5412024, issued by the Registrar of Societies, Government of NCT of Delhi.
Convened its first General Body Meeting during India Smart Utility Week 2025 in New Delhi.
To strengthen global knowledge exchange and bring in best practices from around the world, AIDA sponsored seven senior officers from member utilities to participate in the Asia Clean Energy Forum (ACEF) 2025 at the Asian Development Bank Headquarters in Manila.
Organised a national webinar highlighting Maharashtra’s Mukhya Mantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana (MSKVY) 2.0 under the PM-KUSUM framework.
As an initiate to highlight and enlighten the senior officers of member Discoms on major legal and regulatory issues impacting Discoms, issued a legal brief on the doctrine of frustration and Force Majeure in electricity contracts.
Strengthened India’s power distribution sector through strategic collaborations with national and international organizations. These partnerships focus on policy research, capacity building, technology adoption, knowledge sharing, and regulatory support, enabling DISCOMs to modernize operations, enhance sustainability, and ensure reliable and affordable electricity.
Signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Power Foundation of India (PFI) at Shram Shakti Bhawan, New Delhi. The partnership aims to promote innovation, knowledge development and sectoral reforms that enhance the efficiency, resilience and long-term sustainability of India’s power distribution ecosystem.
Signed its first Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO), USA—the only national non-profit association representing State Energy Directors and their offices from all 56 U.S. states and territories.
Carried out a detailed in-house study on the challenges faced by Distribution Utilities in meeting Renewable Consumption Obligations (RCOs), based on inputs received from 11 DISCOMs across different regions of the country.
Made a comprehensive presentation to the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) on Key Issues and Challenges of Discoms in regards to Renewable Energy.
Released a quarterly newsletter (Volume 1, Issue 1: July–September 2025) to share its key initiatives, achievements, and developments in the power distribution sector.
The report “Dynamics of Tariff and True-up Mechanisms: Insights from SERC Tariff Orders and Regulations”, prepared by AIDA in collaboration with REC Ltd., analysed SERC tariff and true-up orders for FY 2024-25 to assess alignment with national policies and regulations.
EDICON 2026, the inaugural Annual Event of AIDA, was in New Delhi, under the theme "Viable Future-Ready DISCOMs." Inaugurated by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Power, the conference marked a strategic turning point for India’s power sector, celebrating AIDA’s achievements in its first year while emphasizing the transition toward a modernized, digitally resilient distribution network.
The report, titled “India Discoms: 2025”, was released during EDICON 2026, with the Hon’ble Minister of Power, Government of India, as the Chief Guest.
AIDA Annual Awards 2025, instituted and conferred to recognize exemplary performance and innovative initiatives undertaken by member DISCOMs, was given by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Power. The awards aim to encourage utilities to sustain and scale best practices while enhancing the public perception of DISCOMs.
AIDA, in collaboration with the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO), successfully organized the workshop titled “AI-Ready DISCOMs: Advancing Grid Efficiency, Reliability and Sustainability” at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
AIDA, after extensive deliberations in its Committee on Specifications and Procurement Practices, submitted its consolidated comments to the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) on the Draft Guidelines for Standardization of Technical Specifications of Distribution Transformers (DTs). Subsequently, CEA issued the Standard Technical Specifications for
Single-Phase and Three-Phase CRGO Core Distribution Transformers (Part-I).
The Executive Council of AIDA, in its 6th Meeting 22 July 2025, considered the establishment of a Resource & Knowledge Centre (RKC) as a Centre of Excellence to support DISCOMs through knowledge sharing, capacity building, and regulatory advisory services The Executive Council, in its meeting held on 29th May, 2026, approved RKC, which has been named as Institute of Technology and Policy for Electricity Distribution (ITPED).
